Denny Maclaine
Relationship and Couples Therapist
Denny has over 25 years’ experience helping couples navigate the challenges of intimate relationships in couples therapy.
Denny specialises in working with communication, conflict, intimacy blocks (including sexual intimacy) and affairs. She is known for her ability to move couples past surface-level problems and get underneath their issues – so they can repair their relationship and create more authentic, fulfilling connections. Many couples seek Denny out when they just can’t get out of repetitive communication cycles that leave them disconnected or in constant conflict.
Working with affairs and other betrayals is a specialisation, and Denny has had extensive training in this area. Couples working on a betrayal need a Couples Therapist who understands the many ramifications, and who can support both partners in a skilled and considered way. Denny is skilled at pacing sessions to ensure the couple does this work safely.
Denny’s style is warm, thoughtful and attuned while also direct. It means she is not only lovely to work with, but is able to give her clients clear guidance and a way forward.
“I love helping couples in committed relationships work through the ‘stuckness’ and blocks that keep them from having the relationship they desire,” Denny says.
Denny also has training in family therapy. She’s done extensive work with couples who are adjusting to parenthood and other major life transitions. She can help couples who are managing not only their own relationship, but also a range of ‘satellite’ challenges including their children’s wellbeing, problematic extended family, and mental health issues.
Denny incorporates a number of frameworks in her clinical work including Gottman, Psychodynamic and the Developmental Model which draws on attachment theory and neurobiology.
On a personal Denny enjoys dancing, improv, coastal walks, and spending time with family and friends.
Denny offers couples counselling Sydney CBD in person and Online Australia wide.
