Amanda Hallam

Relationship and Couples Therapist

Amanda Hallam

Amanda is a warm, insightful, trauma-informed Therapist who is passionate about supporting couples to repair bonds and reignite their spark. Her clients appreciate her kindness and ability to help them reconnect with the strengths in their relationship.

Many couples start with Amanda when they are ‘stuck’ in unhelpful dynamics – and finish up with the fulfilling connection that we all desire and deserve.

Amanda says, “As human beings, we share an innate need for belonging and connection. It can be complex how this plays out within our romantic attachments, as many things can block our attempts to express our needs and feel seen and heard. It is an honour to provide a safe space and go on a journey with a couple to understand their relational dance and help to alter entrenched patterns.”

Amanda has many years of working with couples and specialises in changing conflict patterns, and working with couples who have experienced trauma and betrayal work such as affairs.

She has also worked extensively with children and families in child protection, with adult survivors of trauma, with people experiencing family violence, and with individuals managing mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

Amanda’s experience comes from private practice and her work for organisations. Notably, Amanda was a trauma counsellor for the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

Amanda holds a Bachelor of Science majoring in Psychology, and a Graduate Diploma in Relationship and Family Therapy. She has extensive training in Emotionally Focused Therapy. Amanda is a member of the Australia Counselling Association (ACA) and ICEEFT, the international body overseeing emotionally focused therapists.

When she’s not at work, Amanda enjoys ocean swimming, hugging her children, bushwalking, playing soccer or travelling.

“Thank you Amanda for the kindness and patience you have shown in your work. We came to Amanda feeling like we were stuck, helpless, and in no way moving forward. Amanda gave us the opportunity to reconnect, to see each other on a deeper level and sit with our own truths. Through curiosity and understanding therapy with Amanda made us rediscover our connection as a couple but also helped us understand our own conflict cycles and how they turn up in our relationship. We are now engaged and use what we learnt with Amanda every day in our relationship! Thank you Amanda.” – Clients who saw Amanda for couples counselling.

“Amanda assisted my partner and I to recognise the strengths in our relationship, as well as patterns built over time which had become detrimental. Her approachable manner, and ability to listen and respond with empathy and compassion, helped my partner and I to understand each other in a way we hadn’t before. We are most grateful for her expertise and care.” – Clients who saw Amanda for couples counselling.
